The point of this article is quite simple. We should emphasize learning goals and strategies when planning lessons. We should then select tools that match purpose. Those who impose technology integration from above should stop doing so.Those who create empires around ICT should desist and should instead expect that curriculum planners within the areas of social studies, math, science, language arts and the fine arts will make smart choices of technologies as they might blend naturally and comfortably into the content areas.Policy makers should back off the pressure to integrate tools that are often imperfect and disappointing,. They should consider rewarding the discerning use of new tools in concert with classical tools. We might do our best to avoid folly lest we end up like Shakespeare warned with a “tale told by an idot signifying nothing.”

about the author
It is easy to make change. Change happens. Even if we sit still…do nothing… change happens. It is more difficult to make good change. Change that makes life better. Change that endures. Change that persists.
“Not much has changed.”
Relato de um caso real da escola “Millennium Elementary School”, que investiu em equipamento e que não houve qualquer mudança de práticas.
Não houve investimento no desenvolvimento profissional
“Millennium has the best scores, the best teaching and the best community support of all the elementary schools in this district. These teachers will not do anything that might undermine that performance.”
Refere dados de um relatório Trotter, Andrew. “Preparing Teachers For the Digital Age.” Technology Counts ’99. Education Week, 1999. September 23, 1999.

Faz referência à tentative de alterar o sistema de ensino da matemática e das ciências na altura que os russos enviaram o Sputnik e do fracasso que foi:
Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it.
George Santayana
Apresenta os Basic Principles to Guide Change Efforts:
Without the enthusiastic endorsement of the teachers in a building, not much change is likely to occur. To win this endorsement, the innovation being proposed must promise outcomes and benefits that match the daily realities, concerns and desires of the staff. In the case of educational technologies, there is often a vacuum when it comes to educational purpose. We too often network because it is “the thing to do.” Teachers usually look askance at such efforts.
If districts expect to see broad-based adoption of new technologies, they must provide 30-60 hours yearly for teachers to meet, to learn and to invent classroom units.
